Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Terms of Service
These Terms are an agreement between you and Shytter LLC ("Shytter", "we", "us") about your use of the Shytter app and website. By creating an account or using Shytter, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Shytter.
1. Who can use Shytter
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Shytter. If you're under 18, you need your parent or guardian's permission, and they agree to these Terms for you.
- You must be at least 18, and allowed to act for the business, to claim a business or buy a Business plan.
- You can't use Shytter if we have banned you, or if the law where you live doesn't allow it.
2. Your account
- Give us true information and keep it up to date.
- One account per person. Don't create accounts for someone else or share your login.
- Use an email address you own and keep. We don't allow throwaway or disposable email services, and we may refuse or close accounts that use them.
- Signing up needs a US mobile number. We send a code to your email, or by text, to confirm it's you.
- Texts. By giving us your mobile number, you agree that we may text it account codes and security messages. We don't send marketing texts. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts, or HELP for help.
- Keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
3. Maps, check-ins and restroom information
- Most information in Shytter comes from other users and businesses. Hours, open or closed status, door codes, ratings and directions can be wrong or out of date.
- A restroom's owner decides who can use it. Being listed on Shytter doesn't give anyone the right to enter.
- Check-ins confirm you visited a place. You must actually be there. Faking your location is not allowed.
- Use your own judgment about safety, cleanliness and access. Visiting any place is at your own risk.
- Don't use Shytter while driving. Follow traffic laws, posted signs and each business's rules.
4. What you post
You can post reviews, ratings, photos, door codes, reports and other content ("your content").
- You keep ownership of your content.
- You give us a licence to use it: a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, adapt (for example, resize a photo) and share your content in Shytter and in promoting Shytter. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared or kept in backups for a limited time.
- You promise you have the right to post it, and that it doesn't break the law or anyone else's rights.
Don't post content that:
- is false or misleading, including fake reviews, reviews of places you didn't visit, reviews a business or anyone else paid or rewarded you to write, or reviews of your own business or a competitor's;
- harasses, threatens or is hateful toward anyone;
- is sexual, violent or shows people without their consent;
- shares someone's private information;
- shares door codes a business hasn't made available to its customers;
- is spam, advertising or links to malware.
We filter reviews for offensive words, and we may review, edit, hide or remove any content and limit or ban accounts that break these rules. You can flag a place you think is wrong in the app. To report a review or another user, email help@shytter.org.
5. Points, levels, avatars and rewards
Points, levels, avatars and other in-app rewards are for fun. They have no cash value, can't be sold or transferred, and we may change or reset them.
Shytter gives points and giveaway tickets for reviews. They never depend on what your review says or how many stars you give, and honest negative reviews earn the same as positive ones. These Shytter rewards are allowed and aren't "paid reviews" under section 4. The app tells readers that reviewers can earn them.
6. Giveaways
We sometimes run giveaways. Each giveaway has its own Official Rules, which control if they differ from these Terms. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, any Shytter giveaway.
7. Claiming a business
Claiming a place is free.
- Only claim a place you own or are authorized to manage.
- We ask for the business name, a contact phone number, your role and the business's EIN, and we may ask for more proof.
- We review every claim. We may approve, reject or later remove a claim, for example if information turns out to be false or another person proves they are the owner.
- An approved claim turns your account into a business account and gives you business tools for that place.
8. Business plan (subscription)
Business tools beyond claiming (editing details, photos and hours, a custom map pin, a check-in perk, and check-in and review alerts) need a Business plan.
- Price. $9.99 per location per month, or the price shown in the app before you buy. Plans cover a set number of locations.
- Free first month. New subscribers may get the first month free. The offer is limited to one per Apple ID. If you don't cancel before the free month ends, the plan starts charging.
- Billing through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- Auto-renewal. The plan renews automatically each month unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancel or change. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), or from Business plan in the app. Cancelling stops future charges; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies.
- When a plan ends, the business tools and your custom pin and perk stop showing. Your claim stays.
- Price changes follow Apple's rules, and we'll tell you before they apply to you.
9. Business content and perks
- Business details, photos and logos you add are your content (section 4). By uploading a logo you confirm you have the right to use it.
- A perk is an offer from the business, not from Shytter. The business is responsible for honoring it and for following the law (including tax and alcohol laws).
- Customers can use a perk once per day after checking in. A perk pass lasts 15 minutes.
- We may hide a pin, perk or business content that breaks these Terms or confuses users.
- A Business plan doesn't let you remove, edit or hide reviews, and we never take payment to remove or change a review. To report a review that breaks these Terms, email help@shytter.org, like anyone else.
10. Ads and notifications
- Shytter shows ads from Google. We don't endorse the products advertised.
- We may send push notifications, such as check-in and review alerts for business owners. You can turn them off in your phone's settings.
- We send emails about your account, such as codes, password resets and giveaway prizes. We don't send marketing emails.
11. Things you must not do
- Hack, probe or overload Shytter, or get around its security or limits.
- Use bots, scrapers or automated accounts, or copy our data in bulk.
- Fake check-ins, reviews, claims or locations.
- Abuse giveaways, perks or rewards, or create extra accounts to get more of them.
- Pretend to be someone else, or to represent a business you don't.
- Copy, sell or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows.
12. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account). Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Business plan bought through Apple; cancel it in your Apple ID settings.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect users.
- Sections that by their nature should continue (for example 4, 13 to 17 and 20) still apply after your account ends.
13. Disclaimers
Shytter is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about the accuracy of information in the app, or about any restroom's availability, cleanliness, safety or accessibility, or about any business's perks. We don't promise the app will always be available or free of errors.
14. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Shytter is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100.
15. Your responsibility to us
If a claim is brought against Shytter because of your content, your business, your perk or your breaking these Terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs, to the extent the law allows.
16. Disputes
Governing law. These Terms and your use of Shytter are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Informal negotiations first. To keep the cost of any dispute, controversy or claim about these Terms or Shytter (a "Dispute") down, you and Shytter agree to first try to resolve it informally for at least thirty (30) days before starting arbitration. Informal negotiations start when one side gives the other written notice.
Binding arbitration. If a Dispute can't be resolved informally, it (except the Disputes excluded below) will be finally and exclusively resolved by binding arbitration. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WITHOUT THIS PROVISION, YOU WOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND HAVE A JURY TRIAL. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this arbitration agreement. The arbitration will be run by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules ("AAA Consumer Rules"), available on the AAA website; for a Dispute about a Business plan or other business use, its Commercial Arbitration Rules apply instead. Your arbitration fees and your share of arbitrator compensation are governed, and where appropriate limited, by the AAA Consumer Rules. The arbitration may be held in person, through documents, by phone or online. The arbitrator will decide in writing, but need not give reasons unless either side asks. Unless the AAA rules or the law require otherwise, the arbitration will take place in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, or by phone or online. Either side may go to court to compel arbitration, stay proceedings pending arbitration, or confirm, modify, vacate or enter judgment on an award.
Courts. If for any reason a Dispute goes to court instead of arbitration, it will be brought in the state or federal courts in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and both sides consent to those courts' jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and the Uniform Computer Information Transaction Act (UCITA) don't apply to these Terms.
No class actions. Any arbitration is limited to the Dispute between you and Shytter individually. To the full extent the law allows: (a) no arbitration will be joined with any other proceeding; (b) no Dispute may be arbitrated as a class action or using class action procedures; and (c) no Dispute may be brought in a representative capacity on behalf of the general public or anyone else.
Exceptions. Either side may bring an individual claim in small claims court instead, if it qualifies. Disputes to enforce or protect, or about the validity of, either side's copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual property may be decided by a court listed above.
Opting out of arbitration. You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing help@shytter.org from your account's email address with your display name and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out doesn't affect the rest of these Terms.
17. Copyright complaints
If you think something on Shytter infringes your copyright, send our copyright agent a notice that includes: your signature (typed is fine); what work you think is infringed; what content on Shytter infringes it and where it is; your address, phone and email; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
Copyright Agent, Shytter LLC, 8838 Black Oak Ct NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122. Email: help@shytter.org.
If we remove your content after a notice and you believe that was a mistake, you can send us a counter-notice as the law allows. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
18. Apple App Store terms
If you got Shytter from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and Shytter, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Shytter or its content.
- Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for Shytter.
- If Shytter fails to meet any warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the app's purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty duty.
- Apple is not responsible for handling any claims about Shytter, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or claims that Shytter breaks someone's intellectual property rights.
- You confirm you are not in a country under a US embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is important, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect (unless the law requires a change sooner), and we may ask you to agree to it in the app. Continuing to use Shytter after it takes effect means you accept the new Terms. Each version shows its date at the top. We keep a record of the version you agreed to and when.
20. General
- These Terms, the Privacy Policy and any Official Rules for a giveaway are the whole agreement between you and Shytter about Shytter.
- If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce part of these Terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them as part of a merger, sale or reorganization of our business.
- We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as outages at the services we use, natural disasters or changes in law.
- We may send you notices by email or in the app.
- Apart from Apple (section 18), nobody else has rights under these Terms.

Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Shytter LLC ("Shytter", "we") collects when you use the Shytter app and website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information we collect
- Account details you give us: email, display name, name, US mobile number, password (stored scrambled, never in plain text) and avatar. We use these to create and secure your account, confirm it's you with a code by email or text, prevent duplicate accounts, and show your profile.
- Guests: if you continue as a guest, we keep a device identifier so the app works for you, but no email or phone number.
- What you post: reviews, ratings, photos, door codes, reports and flags. We use these to show them in the app and keep listings accurate.
- Check-ins and activity: which place you checked in at and when, perks you used, points and levels. We use these to confirm visits, award points, and run perks and giveaways.
- Precise location: your phone's location while you use the app, only if you allow it. We use it to show nearby places, sort by distance and confirm check-ins. We don't track you in the background.
- Business owner details: business name, contact phone, your role, the business's EIN, photos, logo, hours and perk. We use these to review claims and run business tools.
- Purchase records: from Apple, which plan, purchase and renewal dates, renewal status and a transaction ID. We use these to turn your Business plan on and off. We never see your card details.
- Giveaway winners: legal name, the email or phone number on your Zelle account, and confirmation that you're eligible. We use these to pay the prize and meet tax rules.
- Device and app information: device type, operating system, app version, time zone, push notification token, crash reports and app usage events. We use these to send notifications, show local opening hours, fix crashes and improve the app.
- Advertising information: device information and IP address, collected by Google's ad service to show ads. We don't ask permission to track you across other companies' apps, so ads don't use your phone's advertising identifier.
2. How we use it
- Run Shytter: accounts, the map, check-ins, reviews, points, avatars and giveaways.
- Confirm your email with a code, and keep accounts secure (including blocking throwaway email services and abuse).
- Review business claims and run Business plans, pins, perks and owner alerts.
- Send notifications you've allowed, such as check-in and review alerts for owners, and account emails and texts (codes, password resets, prize messages). We don't send marketing emails or texts.
- Moderate content and enforce our Terms.
- Fix bugs, understand how the app is used, and improve it.
- Show ads.
- Follow the law and respond to lawful requests.
3. What other people can see
- Everyone using Shytter can see your display name, avatar and level next to your reviews, ratings and photos.
- Business owners on a Business plan get an alert when someone checks in or reviews their place. The alert shows your display name and the place, so the owner learns that you were at their place at about that time. They also see check-in and review counts for their places. Reviews show the place you reviewed to everyone.
- Your email, phone number, purchase records and GPS location are never shown to other users. Nobody else can see where you are or follow your movements.
4. Services we use
These companies process information for us, under their own privacy policies:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, database, photo storage, and sending emails and text messages.
- Google Firebase: push notifications, crash reports (Crashlytics) and app usage statistics (Analytics).
- Google Maps: maps, and turning locations into addresses.
- Google AdMob: ads in the app.
- Apple: App Store purchases and push notification delivery.
- Squarespace: hosts our website (see "Our website" below).
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (we'd tell you first).
5. Our website
Our website, shytter.org, is hosted by Squarespace. When you visit it, Squarespace collects standard visitor information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and the site that sent you, and uses cookies needed to run the site and its built-in visitor statistics, under Squarespace's privacy policy. We use those statistics to see how the site is used. We don't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels on the website. If you send us a message through a form on the website, we receive what you type (such as your name, email and message) and use it only to answer you. Emails you send to help@shytter.org are handled the same way.
6. How long we keep it
- We keep your account information while your account is open.
- When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account, profile, reviews, check-ins, points, claims, notifications and giveaway tickets for months not drawn yet, right away.
- Some records stay without your name, email or phone number: giveaway tickets from past drawings (so drawings can be checked) and places you claimed (they stay on the map for everyone). Photos and logos you uploaded to a place are deleted; its hours and other basic details stay so the listing stays useful.
- We keep purchase records and giveaway prize records (including a winner's legal name and payment details) as long as tax and other laws require.
- Copies in our backups are deleted on a rolling schedule within 90 days.
- Email and text codes expire after 10 minutes. Used codes are deleted right away, and unused ones within a day after they expire.
7. Your choices and rights
- Location: turn it on or off at any time in your phone's settings. The map still works by searching an address.
- Notifications: turn them off in your phone's settings.
- Your information: see and edit your profile in the app.
- Delete your account: in the app, Profile → Delete account. Cancel any Business plan separately in your Apple ID settings.
- Requests: to ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion, email help@shytter.org. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have more rights, and we'll honor them as the law requires.
8. Children
Shytter is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email help@shytter.org and we'll delete it.
9. Security
We protect your information with encryption between the app and our servers, scrambled passwords and limited staff access. Our last full security review was in October 2026. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
10. Where we store data
Your information is stored on servers in Stockholm, Sweden (European Union) and processed in the United States by the services above.
11. Changes
If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect, and update the date above.
